A first: Running with friends

Today, I went running with a couple of friends! I’ve never really ran with anyone before, aside from a few cross country practices long ago. I was definitely a little apprehensive about it at first – but I’m willing to try (almost) anything once!

Finds out, I absolutely loved it! We did an easy 3 miles, at a pace where we could easily talk and catch up on each other’s lives. I finished and felt like I could keep going! It was great for spending time with some great girls! I also loved it because I have been struggling lately with making it through my runs without walking. Today made me slow down and take it easy, cementing the fact that I can run. I may not be fast, but I am very capable of running 3+ miles.

I’ll use today to remind me that it’s good to take it easy instead of always pushing the pace, and sometimes just as enjoyable. I’ll likely do an easy 3 or 4 miles at the same pace tomorrow, just to get my confidence up once again. I’m now really looking forward to my 5k next weekend once again! While I want to beat 30:00, I’ll be happy with just finishing without walking. I also hope to run with these two girls each week until I move back home.

Fun fact: I’m going to DC on Saturday to go to the National Zoo! I’ve been wanting to go ever since I moved to Maryland! Then I’m going to the Baltimore Orioles game – both with the guy I’ve been seeing. I can’t wait for an awesome date-day 🙂
