Thinking Out Loud #12

It’s Thursday, already? I can’t believe the weekend is already so close! Only two classes, some meetings, and a hearing screening proficiency test separate me from the weekend and I couldn’t be happier. It’s definitely time to celebrate with some Thinking Out Loud with Spoons. Sorry for the lack of pictures…it shows how much I’ve been using my phone lately!

  • The streak is still alive. The streak of getting A’s on quizzes/tests, that is. I’ve officially survived two weeks of grad school and have a 100+ average on my assignments. I now feel more like I belong here – now it’s just to get the hang of clinical assignments…

  • Speaking of school, I’ve somehow found a decent amount of time to keep to myself. I so value the times when I can just sit in front of the tv and veg. My favorite is still The Big Bang theory – I simply can’t get enough of it!
  • Potatoes have been my life lately. I have been craving baked potatoes like there’s no tomorrow. I’m convinced that they’re perfect with a little mexican cheese blend, salsa (I’ve been eating Trader Joe’s tomato-less salsa lately) and a good helping of sriracha.
  • I HAVE A JOB NOW! I was planning to wait a little longer to get a job, to make sure I was alright with school, but an opportunity came to work at the local Fleet Feet Sports and I jumped on it. I had an interview on Monday and was hired on the spot! I’m so excited for this opportunity, to learn more about my favorite hobby, and to be able to help out other runners. I’m not going to lie, I’m totally looking forward to the discount, too. I totally need these shoes in my life…

  • I planned to write a recap of last weekend’s 5k, but I really don’t have any pictures so it would be boring. Long story short: it was a wonderful race, but terrain wise it was through an apple orchard so it was hard. I somehow came in 2nd in my AG, 4th woman, and 10th overall out of 25ish people. Good enough for me – I won’t turn down placing during  a not-so-great run.
  • Last but not least, I’m still struggling hard with missing Maryland. I think of Towson every day and the only thing that makes me feel better is seeing pictures of my friends on my binder. Doing well here makes it worth it, to know that I’m one day closer to being back with them. I just watched a National Geographic special about drugs in Baltimore, which is really scary. But I still miss it like crazy. The longer away, the more I know it’s my home.

  1. Congrats on the new job, lady! AND on rocking it at school 🙂 It’s great to hear that things are going so well for ya, despite the little bit of homesickness. At least you know it’s not a forever type deal, and it really makes you appreciate things a whole lots more. That’s always how I feel when I travel — I’m glad to come back home 🙂

  2. YAY! Congrats on the job!!! Fleet Feet is one of my favorites 🙂 Also, I’m just going to put this out there… potatoes are my jam always. Looking forward to hearing all the tips and tricks you learn at the new gig!

  3. Congrats on the job! I’d be interested in knowing what the training process is like…I feel like I could never remember everything I needed to to work at a running store….

I’m also curious…how bad was the terrain in the apple orchard? I’m running a 10K at one in October, and I was wondering what it was going to be like.

    • Thanks! I’m really liking it so far. I’m learning a lot but it is so fun. It’s easy to learn it when you love to run.
Running in the orchard was hard, but it wouldn’t have been as bad if I was prepared for it. It just involved some tall grass and the ground was uneven. It was a fun challenge!
