As I was expecting, the Maryland heat showed up this week and slapped me right in the face. I’m glad it happened because it’s time to get acclimated to it, but it definitely added a level of difficulty to this week’s runs.
I took about 5 weeks off for my injury, and then spent a few weeks running when I could and when it felt good. I am happy to say I ran this week feeling great, and I’m focusing about getting my base mileage back up into the 20’s range before marathon training starts.
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 3.1 miles. I ran this route 4:45 faster than I did just 12 days prior. I didn’t have to walk and truly just felt more comfortable running in my new neighborhood.
Wednesday: 2.18 miles at November Project. It was PR day and the running miles were half running, half going up and down stairs. Add in 30 burpees and that was my morning. I feel like I could have done better, as I was experiencing some tummy troubles that morning. It was hard but I loved it and can’t wait to improve next month!

Thursday: 4.03 miles of hills! I didn’t have to go into work until noon, so I drove down to Towson to run a hilly route. It made me so happy to run through my favorite place. I hope to do this route every couple of weeks and hopefully see some improvement.
Friday/Saturday: Rest.
Sunday: 6.2 miles for the longest I’ve ran (not counting run/walk last week) since the last half marathon. My legs felt great except for a little ITB tightness and I only shortly walked twice, one being to take an unexpected Gu. I was glad I brought it “just in case” because the heat/sun drained me faster than expected. My best friend who is running MCM with me came to run with me and it was great to have such wonderful company!
On Sunday I used my run as my miles to earn my Incredible Virtual Run medal from Level Up runs. I love the medal’s Disney/Pixar theme and it is stunning!! The fact that I was earning my medal helped me keep going when the heat was tough. It was a great run before Zooma Annapolis this upcoming weekend!
Today I’m linking up with Tricia at Miss Sippy Piddlinand Holly at HoHo Runs for the Weekly Wrap, and Megan at Run Megan Run for the Weekly Workout Recap. Head over to their pages to check out some other great posts! Thanks for hosting, Ladies!
Did you have a good run or race this Memorial Day weekend? How are you doing with acclimating to the heat?
Gah — I feel like I never acclimate to the heat. Living in the south, you’d think I could do that. It sounds like things are going very well since your injury. I know that must feel like such a relief! I’ll start building my base in a few weeks as I prep for marathon training as well. I earned that Incredible Medal too! They do such a good job on those. Thanks for linking with us Sam!

Great job on your wk of workouts, especially the hill one. I hate do hills, but it is so beneficial. Cool medal for your virtual run!

I guess now is as good of a time as any to start acclimating to the heat! It just came on so suddenly. Glad you had such a great week of running!

Looks like a great week of running! I am also trying to maintain a base of 25-30 miles per week before starting marathon training in July. I don’t know if I’ll ever get acclimated to running in the heat, but I’m trying to stay in a routine of getting out early before it gets unbearable.
